Job Description

NAPAFASA is dedicated to mental health and harm reduction advocacy through research, public health and policy reform, and community empowerment through civic engagement. We are committed to health equity and social justice by working to reduce substance misuse and partnering with our communities to promote mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. Currently we are undertaking two projects that provide community outreach and education on negative impacts of secondhand smoke and the rising hate crimes and incidents in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Programs Manager, the Outreach Coordinator’s primary roles are the following:

Projects:

  • Develop and conduct program activities and outreach related to smoke-free outdoor areas policies in two Los Angeles County cities within the San Gabriel Valley
  • Develop and conduct program activities and outreach related participant recruitment, programmatic highlights, partnership-building, and art-festival promotion

This position is funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Tobacco Control and Prevention Program (TCPP) and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Stop the Hate funding through the AAPI Equity Alliance (AAPIEA).

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with NAPAFASA Staff (employees, contractors, interns, and volunteers) to coordinate and promote outreach activities and events through in-person and virtual engagement, including the use of social media, email listservs, and newsletters
  • Conduct public opinion surveys and observational studies in two San Gabriel Valley municipalities to gauge exposure to and perception of secondhand smoke
  • Develop relevant social media content (graphics and text copy) and educational materials for projects
  • Adapt strategies for coalition building at in-person and virtual settings
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with residents, key decision-makers, and other stakeholders
  • Develop meeting agendas and facilitate coalition meetings
  • Attend and present project updates during weekly NAPAFASA staff meetings
  • Attend monthly TCPP-led task force meetings and quarterly meetings with the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Los Angeles County
  • Work with coalition members to update strategy charts, decision maker matrices, media record reviews, policy record reviews
  • Assist with the completion of monthly reports to funders
  • Conduct key informant interviews as needed
  • Engage with decision-makers, including various City Staff, Commissioners, and Councilmembers, by providing educational materials
