Job Description

NAPAFASA is dedicated to mental health and harm reduction advocacy through research, public health and policy reform, and community empowerment through civic engagement. We are committed to health equity and social justice by working to reduce substance misuse and partnering with our communities to promote mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. Currently, we are working with two San Gabriel municipalities to be a resource on information and education related to secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure and smoke-free outdoor area (SFOA) policies.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Programs Manager, the Project Coordinator’s primary roles are the following:

  • Ensure completion of the project’s scope of work activities
  • Coordinate and conduct data collection in two San Gabriel Valley municipalities
  • Be a resource to the community and coalition on information and education related to SHS exposure and SFOA policies in two San Gabriel Valley municipalities
  • Work with Programs Manager to prepare administrative reports, invoices and documents

This position is funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Tobacco Control and Prevention Program (TCPP)

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with NAPAFASA Staff (employees, contractors, interns, and volunteers) to:
  • Strategize and prepare for data collection, coalition building and community outreach activities
  • Communicate with community organizations, establishments, and city facilities to schedule opportunities for data collection, coalition building, and community outreach
  • Facilitate activities day of to ensure project scope of work is met
  • Conduct public opinion surveys and observational studies in two San Gabriel Valley municipalities to gauge exposure to and perception of secondhand smoke
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with residents, key decision-makers, and other stakeholders
  • Seek, develop, and maintain relationships with community stakeholders
  • Adapt strategies for coalition building at in-person and virtual settings
  • Develop relevant social media content (graphics and text copy) and educational materials
  • Develop meeting agendas and facilitate coalition meetings
  • Attend and present project updates during weekly NAPAFASA staff meetings
  • Attend monthly TCPP-led task force meetings and quarterly meetings with the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Los Angeles County
  • Work with coalition members to update strategy charts, decision maker matrices, media record reviews, policy record reviews
  • Complete monthly reports on completed scope of work activities with supporting documents
  • Conduct key informant interviews with relevant stakeholders who can provide insight and knowledge on the community’s perception on SHS and SFOA policies
  • Engage with decision makers, including various City Staff, Commissioners, and Councilmembers, by providing educational materials
  • Provide and coordinate public testimony, such as at City Council meetings
  • Collaborate with Programs Manager to develop internship projects with undergraduate and graduate interns

The position is based in Alhambra, CA.

This is a hybrid/remote position with flexible hours.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (mid $50K). Full medical, vision, and dental benefits are provided.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $54,000.00 – $56,000.00 per year
